Founded in 1828 as the nation’s 13th-oldest medical school, the Medical College of Georgia has advanced the mission of improving health and reducing the burden of illness on society for over 180 years.
Every office on campus works to support this mission. As interim president of Georgia’s health sciences university, it is a privilege to carry forth this most noble of traditions. Virtually every Georgian’s health has been enhanced by the clinical care, biomedical research and education that unfolds daily on both our main campus in Augusta and our satellite, clinical and partner campuses throughout the state. I look forward to passing the reins to my successor when a national search produces MCG’s eighth president. In the meantime, I will do everything in my power to honor and perpetuate the university’s proud legacy.
I hope the information presented on these pages provides you with a greater understanding of the role and good works of MCG.
James N. Thompson, M.D.
Interim President, Medical College of Georgia
